The BBC has produced an illuminating documentary outlining how the Long Play record molded Pop Music by relieving artists from the time constraints of the single, and how Rock & Roll musicians, in turn, molded the Concept Album, turning song and popular music into a sophisticated, novel version of the multi-movement symphony. With the current shift from CDs to single downloads, is the concept album on the way out? The documentary also raises questions about how we listen to music today.
